6.6L Duramax Diesel Engine LB7
This original Duramax Diesel 6600 V-8 (LB7) was introduced in 2001 and was used through the mid-2004 model year. It offered a unique 32 overhead valve design coupled with high pressure direct fuel injection. The engine design included an experimental composite aluminum cylinder head. The most frequent customer complaint centered around overheating and blown head gaskets. These were caused by fuel injector failure, allowing fuel to penetrate the crankcase and compromise the engine's oil. The LB7 creates 300 bhp @ 3100 RPM and 520 lb ft torque @ 1800 RPM.
